~ In-game Description for the Nodachi

Nodachi is a weapon class in Conqueror's Blade.

Overview[ | ]

The nodachi is a large two-handed sword that excels at cutting down lightly protected units. Nodachi users have plenty of tools to stay in a fight, including several control effect removal skills and their unique lifesteal capabilities, but do not have strong mobility and are vulnerable to being locked down by other weapon classes capable of inflicting heavy amounts of control effects.

Acquisition[ | ]

The nodachi can be unlocked in the skills page of the Character tab (default key P, top right) for 5 skill points once the player reaches level 15. Once unlocked, the level 1 versions of all nodachi skills will become available and can then be upgraded further for more skill points. Nodachi weapon skills can be used simply by equipping any nodachi, but like all weapons only 4 skills including up to 1 paragon (yellow-coloured) skill can be used at a time, customizable through the skills page.

Nodachis are classed for medium armour. This means that nodachi users can wear any mix of light or medium armour and still be allowed to use a nodachi. However, it is recommended for players to use the heaviest armour they can equip for the additional defenses.

Passive Abilities[ | ]

Bloodlust & Bloodbath[ | ]

Nodachi example bloodlust stacks

The part of the HUD that tracks Bloodlust stacks. This particular example has 2 Bloodlust stacks.

Nodachi has a unique resource called Bloodlust. All nodachi weapon skills besides Dragon's Leap grant 1 or 2 stacks of Bloodlust either upon activation or upon hitting an enemy (see weapon skills for details). Each stack of Bloodlust additively grants 2% life drain on all damage inflicted by both normal attacks and ability hits as well as 3% damage reduction. If a nodachi lands a hit using an ability that grants Bloodlust stacks, the life drain will apply before the Bloodlust stack is gained - e.g. if a hero attacks an enemy with Samurai's March while at 3 Bloodlust stacks, the first hit will have 6% life drain and the second hit will have 8% life drain. Bloodlust stacks are displayed on the left of the ability HUD over the weapon icon as small red flames. Bloodlust stacks are not lost for any reason except for if the nodachi user dies or once the nodachi user enters the Bloodbath state.

When a nodachi user gains 5 stacks of Bloodlust, they will enter the Bloodbath state. In this state, all Bloodlust stacks are consumed and instead 30% life drain, 25% damage reduction, and 15% movement speed are conferred for 8 seconds. All nodachi weapon skills have special effects that are only active while in Bloodbath. The remaining duration of Bloodbath is displayed on the left of the ability HUD over the weapon icon as a circular progress bar. During Bloodbath, it is still possible to regain Bloodlust stacks; if 5 Bloodlust stacks are gained while in Bloodbath, then the duration will be refreshed back to 8 seconds.

Combo Strikes[ | ]

When executing their 4-attack normal attack combo, nodachi users will gain the Combo Strikes buff for a very short period of time upon initiating their 2nd, 3rd or 4th attacks, which is visible as an icon in the buff bar above the ability HUD. The in-game description for Combo Strikes is as follows:

Unleash a continual series of attacks to inflict extra Life Drain, and reduce damage taken from 4-star and 5-star units.

Combo Strikes grants 40% damage reduction against heroic and golden era units, as well as 25% life drain for the 3rd attack and 50% life drain for the 4th attack. Additionally, the 3rd and 4th attacks will also push back enemy units. Combo Strikes lasts 2 seconds upon initiating either the 3rd or 4th attack.

Tips[ | ]

Skill Selection[ | ]

  • Bloodthirsty is the near mandatory skill for nodachi users. It combines much needed mobility, a control effect, and a control effect removal into a single low cooldown skill.
  • The other nodachi weapon skills can be chosen more freely:
    • Tiger's Claw offers a wide ranging pushback effect and is also the highest damaging non-paragon nodachi weapon skill, making it an extremely popular choice amongst nodachi users.
    • Fearless & Steadfast is used primarily for the low cooldown control effect removal and immunity, and is a great option for additional safety.
    • Samurai's March is good for chaining control effects on heroes, and also has effectiveness against tightly packed units such as Onna-musha and Shieldmaidens.
    • The extreme amount of lifesteal afforded by Monstrous Blade makes it an excellent buff skill, although the long cooldown can somewhat complicate the usage of this skill.
    • Blood Oath resets the cooldowns of basic offensive nodachi weapon skills and can be strong in the right situations, such as for chaining control effects on heroes.
    • Both paragon skills Avalanche and Dragon's Leap are viable options. Avalanche generates huge amounts of Bloodlust stacks when used against units and can be paired with Monstrous Blade for a truly massive amount of lifesteal. Dragon's Leap is excellent for disrupting enemy formations and can also be used as an escape tool. However it must be noted that Avalanche is easily avoided by enemy heroes and suffers heavily against shielded or high burst damage units. As such, Avalanche is fairly unpopular amongst nodachi users. It's also perfectly viable to not use either paragon skill at all and instead use 4 basic skills.
    • Remember to review the current seasonal runes which may affect the viability of these skills.

Equipment & Attribute Builds[ | ]

  • It's advised to put attribute points into Agility to improve slashing penetration, which allows nodachi users to fight effectively against well armoured heroic and golden era units as well as heroes wearing heavy armour. At a high enough slashing penetration (1800 is a good number), any remaining attribute points can be put into Strength or Toughness to improve damage and defenses respectively.
  • As nearly all of a nodachi's damage output is slashing, anybody looking to reforge a nodachi should aim for slashing damage and slashing armour penetration in their stat rolls first and foremost.
  • The Carnifex set is the standard choice of armour for nodachi users, being the medium armour set that uses the Rare Armour Schematic. Those looking to commit to playing nodachi long term should look into the Black Sun Anchorite set as the premier set for nodachi users.

Gameplay[ | ]

  • Nodachi is strong against unshielded units and nodachi users can reasonably hold their own in most hero duels. However nodachi is far from a top-tier dueling weapon and it suffers heavily against shields, high burst damage, and attacks that can concuss, send enemies flying, or inflict winded.
  • Unlike other classes, normal attacks with the nodachi are very strong, and it's encouraged to use the normal attack combo when fighting, especially the 3rd and 4th attack hits.
    • It's possible for nodachi users to interrupt charging cavalry without using skills by walking near or in the path of them and timing the normal attack combo so their 3rd and 4th hits hit the charging cavalry unit.
    • Normal attacks can be delayed slightly without interrupting the combo. This is most useful when using the Black Sun Anchorite set which grants immunity to control effects during Combo Strikes.
  • As nearly all of the nodachi attacks and weapon skills inflict slashing damage, it's advised to aim for slashing damage and slashing penetration foremost when reforging a nodachi.
  • The dismount skill for nodachi is high damage and inflicts knockdown, but has a long delay before the attack actually occurs. It can be used to lead in with a high damage attack against units or to chain control effects on heroes. Note that the dismount skill can be aimed until the moment the swing occurs.

Playing Against Nodachi[ | ]

  • Although nodachi has strong life drain skills and plenty of control effect immunity and removal skills, it is still classed for medium armour and nodachi users generally put attribute points into offensive stats. As such, nodachi users tend to have low defenses, and are weak against burst damage and attacks that inflict concuss, sent flying, or winded (which nodachi weapon skills cannot cleanse).
  • Nodachi performs badly against shielded units unless using Dragon's Leap.
  • All nodachi skills besides Dragon's Leap can be blocked.
  • Heroes can easily roll out of range of the Avalanche weapon skill.
  • Nodachi users have low mobility outside of the Bloodthirsty skill. It's entirely possible for many classes with mobility to outmaneuver in a duel or simply run away if the fight is not going favourably.
  • Many weapon classes have a great advantage against nodachi in duels. These include Chain Dart & Scimitar, Dual Blades, Poleaxe, and Pike.
